Changing Altitudes- Mass Timber Airport Design

“The process of flight and changes one experiences throughout traveling is something often left undiscussed. During a typical flight, passengers undergo a change in altitude from takeoff to around 35,000 feet at cruising apex until returning to ground at landing. The change can be expressed in one motion adapted and repeated throughout the roof structure of this airport. This overall gesture being reflective of one’s journey and course traveled as they experience flight.”

Project Specifics:

-41,100 Square foot floor plan completely implemented with mass timber structure

-Post and beam structural system with Simpson Strong-tie connections

-North and South facades feature large curtain walls with wood louvre systems for daylighting

-Second iteration of the Moscow Pullman airport designs
